What’s up, everyone! I’m writing this on a full moon because I feel particularly restless. I’m scooting my chair up as close as I can to my computer because if my chest isn’t touching the desk in front of me, I’m not reaching flow state. It’s giving OCD, but I just need to be…closer…
It’s been many moons since I’ve written a blog, but it’s not because I haven’t wanted to. That meme, “life been kicking my ass, I love you, talk soon,” is literally me if I were a meme. Also, people who pronounce meme as “meh-meh”… I hate you forever. I opened up a boutique shortly after finishing my last blog, not knowing that would be my last blog for a while, but I got booked and busy. I think it’s super, super important to have creative outlets as a child adult because life is scary, and sometimes too serious. It doesn’t help that I have so many Capricorn placements constantly telling me to work on something or I’ll become a shell of Edgar Allan Poe just writing weirdness and talking to birds.
I love working, though, especially on things I’m passionate about, and for a while, it was that boutique. I opened it with a friend, and we took our creative heads and bonked them together to create a thrifty haven where we could forget real-world problems. Except, after a couple of months, those problems reappeared like a paralysis demon. Shit was freakin’ expensive. I know I focus heavily on fashion in this blog, but my truest, undying passion is design, furthermore, interior design. Those who know me well, know this already because I don’t forget to remind people that ONE DAY, I will be a designer. Well, a professional designer because designer, I have been. But stick with me, people. Once I get that perfect job that only needs me to work two days a week and pays me $10K a month, it’s over. World domination type-stuff. No, but really it just felt like life threw me in the dryer and forgot I was in there. Even still, I am here, passionate as ever.
I won’t stop writing about fashion in this blog, though, because this blog is my baby, and it’s how I remind people that I am a fashion psychic. I may not be able to predict the next time your boyfriend is going to piss you off, but I will most likely be able to predict a trend three months before it happens (and that’s on being chronically on Pinterest). Fashion is interesting because it speaks to the times. Fashion is intuitive, emotional and transcendent, which is why trends happen in waves. It really is a collective experience. For instance, Gorpcore. God, I love Gorpcore. “Gorp” stands for granola, oatmeal, raisins and peanuts aka Hikercore. It’s so cool because it’s very much an expression of restless adventure, and in corporate America, nothing sounds more enticing. When that trend initially happened, it wasn’t like it came out of nowhere. Fashion just finally caught up. All of a sudden, we’ve got Salomon’s! Need I say more? Didn’t think so… I won’t dive back into why it’s one of my favorite trends because I think that was my last blog. Although I will say, more people were outdoors in the past two years than in my entire lifetime. Okay, fine, that’s not true. Certainly felt like it, though, because everyone and their dog was wearing Patagonia. Love to see it.
Our fashion changes in waves, but there is an unshakable core.
If you’re new here, I share beautiful pieces from well-known brands to not-so-well-known brands, and even wildly high-end ones. Not because I’m anticipating that my readers are shopping at Saks, but because I do believe it’s worth taking a look at what the world’s top designers are doing in fashion. Understand that when you see me linking a brown turtleneck, I’ve chosen that piece because of its shape, texture and presence. Anyone can own a brown turtleneck, but Not. Like. This. One. That’s what differentiates clothing from fashion, between wearing something and something wearing you! Fashion is how we express ourselves, and it’s one of the fastest ways to tell people niche things about ourselves that only fashion can say. If I see a guy in high-waisted bell-bottoms walking down the street in 2026, I’m jumping to, this guy is a hippie. He’s probably saying “world peace,” A LOT, and he probably has a burnt orange couch. Although, on the other hand, fashion is a tool, and we get to use it to tell a story. But it doesn’t have to be a true story, it can be fiction, if you want.
If I’m being honest, it’s taken me years to figure out what story I wanted to tell. In a world full of fashion and trends, I wondered: how do people pick just one?! I also never particularly liked following trends because it never felt authentic. There were times I felt behind in fashion and wondered if I was telling the story of being completely out of touch and out of the clique, which, if we’re being honest, was a true story! Haha. But finally, it’s all morphed, and I get what I was feeling so on edge about all these years. I wanted to be intentional. This unshakable core was what I was looking for all those years: a guidepost to come back to, knowing that no matter what, this will work.
These are the pieces I’m sharing with you today. Reflections of this unshakable core. They’re quite the opposite of unique, because they’re staples in women’s fashion. When I feel out of place, chaotic or fearing for my life because I had too much coffee, these are my go-tos. Timeless and classic, so that I can feel put together when I’m not.
