The REAL Boho Chic

If you Google ‘Boho Chic,’ you’ll see countless photos of Bohemian wear, but there’s nothing chic about it. So, what is chic? By definition, it means elegantly and stylishly fashionable. Key word: Elegant. The reason I love Boho Chic is because it takes a flowy, almost messy look and makes it elegant. I have no clue how or when that got lost in translation—could you feel the eye roll there? But I’m more than happy to do the honors of correcting this grandiose mistake!

I believe my first encounter with the real Boho Chic was in the early 2000s, thanks to none other than Hilary Duff herself. It was when she transitioned from her girly pop Disney era into her edgier, teen rockstar phase. My memory isn’t the greatest, but Hilary Duff and her eras are one of the few things that are ingrained in my brain. She’d rock low-rise jeans, a loose-fitted top, stacks of bangle bracelets, and that signature boho hair. It was like she stepped off the beach and was going straight to a punk show.

Brb I have to run and grab some hair bleach!

Although I love Hilary Duff, and she’s my idol for life, the real Boho Chic guru’s are the Olsen twins.

They took something effortless and used black and leather to make it iconic. Their hobo handbags became a bohemian staple. That’s the essence of chic—taking something carefree and seemingly unpolished, refining it just enough to feel intentional, and transforming it into effortless style.

They may make it look easy, but this style is definitely intentional in every piece. However, there are signature items that can transform most outfits, and that’s what this blog is all about! While I might reference brands I don’t fully support, my goal is purely inspirational. You do you, but I strongly advocate for thrifting these items before hitting the online stores or the nearest mall—you might even find pieces from the twins themselves!
